At the first day of the indoor championship 2011 DH1 and DH2 managed to win all of their games. DH1 is now leading the BUIC, DH2 is climbing to third division. The hard work is paying of…again. I think there’s still a lot of progress possible, but we’re already pretty pleased with the results so far.
DH1 started of against the Mooncatchers. With a few valuable players missing for the Mooncatchers, we were confident we could win this game. But, due to a lot of small errors, and, as always, some incredible plays by Mooncatchers they were able to keep up. Finally we took the victory on universe point!
Then DH1 stood face to face with Freezzzbeezzz. Because we saw them winning incredibly easy against Slijpschijven, we knew this would be a hard game for us. We had to play a lot better then our first game. And, we did! We put up a lot of pressure in D and played calmly in O, giving Freezzzbeezzz a hard time to get into their game. A well fought game ending in our advantage: 9-6.
In their third game of the day DH1 stood across Slijpschijven. Although they had some troubles adjusting to the indoor field in their first game, the indoor champs of last year were picking up their pace in their second game. We were warned! So we started with some hard D, which seemed to work just fine, but our offense didn’t. We kept on struggling, with more personal errors then all of the other games together. Slijpschijven played a lot more efficient. The game could have gone both ways. But, I guess in situations like these the difference between DH2010 and DH2011 is clearly visible. Where we would have most certainly lost this game last year, due to hasty plays and lack of confidence, this year we stayed calm, and kept on finishing each point. Leading the entire game with only one point eventually resulting in the win.
In the last game of the day Gentle caught us by surprise with hard pressure and a smooth and flawless offensive flow. In no time we were 2 down. Time to focus! Some extra pressure on their handlers, patience in offense and a sublime dive by the Olinator, and we were back in the game. We managed to take the lead and we didn’t give it away anymore 11-8.
After day 1, DH1 is leading the Belgian Indoor Competition. A first timer! I’m glad to be a part of this team. We hope we can keep up the good work.
More info from the other DH-teams coming soon!
