Last week-end DH enjoyed 2 windy days of Ultimate @ Monsterball near Den Haag.
Besides some minor issues (Ultimus Prime are taking the queue in BBQ a little to serious and playing Ultimate on a beach just makes you darn thirsty doesn't it?) this was a really enjoyable tournament. Nice accommodation, sexy party with a great band, short distances between the campsite and the courts, funny looking trophee, lovely folks...a round of applause for the organisors.
"Hard work pays of" is a quote I'd like to refer to after this tournament. Sigi and Ben made a great effort for the team to practice on beach-surface regularly and intensively. This payed of in a clearly noticeable progress fysically, technically and tactically, and I guess that's what made the difference in this tournament. DH came out second @ Monster as one of the youngest teams participating and playing with 3 girls !!! Our girls ate men twice their size for breakfast! Only Zoccoli Misty, with a score rate of 91 to 7 before the final, was able to crash the defensive wall a few times to many (13/8), so they deserved to be crowned as Kings and Queens of the Monster beach.
But, that's not the end of it. DH made an effort to show as much respect as possible towards their opponents without any bud kissing of course. Guess what, they all noticed and declared us Spirit Winners of Monsterball 2009.
Same story for our second team, playing without their shepherd Joris, they created some really nice flows both up- and downwind. Considering there weren't any teams with a real beginner level, 4 victories out of 8 isn't a bad result at all! Therefor I think their ranking wasn't representative for their way of playing...
